Hey there guys, it's ghost girl with another anime review. Soul Eater is today's topic. If you dislike reading, well that's okay I have a YouTube clip (on GhostGirl) that will hopefully visually entertain you with the same review, it's much more brief and or if you're just on the go, come and check out my SoundCloud podcast also called (GhostGirl).

I'm not promoting just simply reminding individuals with low attention spans on where to find me. Alright so Soul Eater is one of those anime that is completely different in it's own way. From the art, to the music and even the story itself really sets itself apart from the other anime. I honestly can't believe that this came out in 2009 and I had no idea until 2015, that's like six years later.

Ahem. I'm super late but oh well, that's why this is a throwback review. *Cricket-cricket and I just so happen to miss the deadline because I'm human and got sort of busy with stuff. Anyways I was scrolling through Netflix and Soul Eater appears, it's been awhile since I've watched some anime so why not right? I click it and was immediately hooked. Why did I stopped watching anime again?

It immediately drew me in with the music and the long intro sequence but the music fits so well with the intro that honestly I don't dare skip it. Let's just talk to the music real quick because the music is what really pushed this anime for me. The music really drove in the idea that this anime is alternative, grungy, gritty, and all of those are categorize as underground, unknown and "exclusive." At least in my brain that's how I label things, so immediate thumbs up. My favorite music is the failed recorder song. I have never heard any show or anime purposely put something that's awful, yet good to signify like a comical transition or part in the anime. And awful yet good is also something that's categorized as punk which comes to no surprise that the outro is called "I Wanna Be by Stance Punks." Oh yeah and the intro is called "Resonance by T.M. Revolution Song."

The art is pretty different in terms of this gritty, fish lens, thing it has going on. Of course when the fighting scenes are happening it's all DragonBallZ from there but there's a distinct difference in it. I think it looks more gritty but that could be because of the music, it honestly could be exactly the same. Also there's some slight nudity to it, just a bit, just cleavage... a lot of top boob scenes but that's anime for you. The art style definitely changes depending on the mood and you can tell when things are dark, they're dark with red and when things are light and funny they're chibi and sketch like. I love how this anime does so well in transition back and forth and in between horror, gore, comedy, romance, and friendship without overdoing it and being cliche'.

The characters are so phenomenal, I love how almost every character have their own sort of knack of being. Like Death the Kid needing everything to be absolutely symmetrical or he looses it. Black Star being a complete ego maniac and wanting to overcome God. Maka being the sensitive yet a powerful, nothing to fuck with bad bitch. The list just goes on but most of these characters are memorable especially Excalibur. Honestly, if you haven't seen this anime you need to watch it just for that dude alone. One of my all time favorite scenes of the anime and I'm pretty sure most people would agree.

The story is these characters; Maka, Soul, Black Star, Tsubaki, Death the Kid, Liz and Patty all student of the Death Academy to strive and become powerful Death Meisters. In order to complete this mission they need all 99 evil souls and 1 witch. It starts off that way slowly introducing each individual character, their knacks, weapons and origin story. Then things become more difficult as their ultimate nemesis Medusa infiltrates the school and starts to mess with the students. In the end they have to defeat the omega boss, Asura aka the Kishin and reclaim peace.

Not too many fans were keen on this ending change because they're super-fans who read the manga and then watched the anime. Otakus. But the ending changed and I'll admit it was a bit odd and confusing but I don't think that it deserves any points taken off. The director and writer knew what they were doing and for the most part delivered something that is one my all time favorite anime.

What do you think of this anime, if you've seen it? What did you like about it and what didn't you like about it? Leave a comment down below.
